Mathematics and Literacy in Year 6

Monday, January 17, 2022

The use of ratios and proportional reasoning is required across many different areas of mathematics and science. We began by revising what ratios are and how they are used. Then we moved unto basic ratio conversions and modelling. We focused on problem solving related to ratios and proportion this week. Some students found the problem solving quite challenging because the questions are of an abstract nature. I have taught my learners some tricks to solve these difficult questions.

I also teach Year 6 Literacy. Last week, we had a reading comprehension about world changing inventions created by children. This week, we did a comprehension about the fascinating nature of seahorses. We watched a documentary clip to supplement the reading material and lastly, we played a knowledge-based game about the topic.
