Literacy in Year 4 is a fun, engaging and sometimes challenging subject that enhances students’ knowledge and understanding of reading, writing, speaking and listening in English.
In Literacy lessons students continue to refine and expand upon their existing knowledge: for example, by learning how to form continuous, as well as simple, verb tenses. Students are introduced to many new concepts, including possessive pronouns and collective nouns. In addition students build upon their knowledge of sentence structures, by learning about the subject and object of a sentence, and the difference between a sentence and a phrase.
Guided reading is also an integral part of Literacy lessons in Year 4. Throughout the year students read a series of books written by Roald Dahl. This Test period we are reading ‘The Twits’. Guided Reading is one of the most effective tools not only to improve student’s fundamental reading skills but also to help students develop higher level comprehension skills.
Throughout lessons students are encouraged to answer and discuss questions, and to motivate students further Class Dojo is used to reward students participation, knowledge and understanding.
