Year 11 Mathematics for Business and Finance – Using Equations to Solve Real Life Problems

Friday, December 3, 2021

Running a business is not an easy task. Very often, business owners and managers have to calculate markup, interests, depreciation, the future value of annuities, and numerous other financial obligations. One of the subjects our Business Track students study in Year 11 is Mathematics for Business and Finance. In this course, students learn how various mathematical concepts can be applied to running a business.

Recently, the students have  been using basic algebra to elicit equations from word problems. While solving basic equations is a topic students at Assumption College English Program (ACEP) learn in lower secondary, in Mathematics for Business and Finance the main focus is on applying this knowledge to solving real life problems. Students learn how to translate problems into equations, how to solve those equations, and how to check whether their solution is reasonable and logical.

We are certain that Mathematics for Business and Finance as well as other track subjects that our students have the opportunity to study at ACEP prepare them not only for their university studies but also their future careers in Business and Finance.
