We have had some great ‘getting to know you’ activities in the first week of Year 2’s Summer School.
In phonics and literacy class the children have been learning reading skills and reviewing phase one to three phonics. The Year 2 children have also been learning fun English, Mathematics and Science activities. In Mathematics they have been learning number ordering, place value to one thousand and skip counting. In English the children have been reviewing reading comprehension with read and draw activities. In Science we have looked at animals and their habitat. Our Summer School Science project is to make habitat boxes (dioramas), and decorate them with the correct plants and animals for that habitat.
It is truly wonderful to see the children learning in ways that use higher order thinking skills like classification in ‘hands on’ learning activities.
