For their first week in Summer School, the Year 8 English students are exploring their interests: music, food, sport, animals, etc., and reporting back to their classmates about what puts a smile on their face. It’s a fun way to practice communication, self-expression, consolidation of ideas, and the connection between what we like and how we live.
The best part about Summer School is the focus on fun over work. It’s possible to do both, as seen in this “research” assignment, and as the saying goes, “If you love the work, you’re not really working at all.” And it gives the students a chance to showcase the things they’re interested in, adding a personal touch to their academics.
