Year 11 students from Assumption College English Program study circular motion. The period of the motion was obtained by monitoring the motion for ten revolutions and determining the time required. The radius of the motion was measured on the string after completing the period determination. Knowing the mass of the object allowed the centripetal force to be calculated from the equation F=4π^2rm/T^2. This value was then compared to the tension in the string (found from the gravitational force acting on the counterweight).
