Year 11 Electromagnetic Induction

Year 11 students from Assumption College English Program study electromagnetic induction. First, students confirm the right hand grip rule, by observing the shift in a compass when the current to a light bulb was switched on. Next, students constructed an electromagnet by connecting a power supply to a coil containing an iron core. The students used this to attract iron and steel objects. Lastly, students examined induction by moving a magnet inside a coil and watched the deflection on a galvanometer needle. They then repeated this observation by spinning a coil inside a magnetic field created by 2 permanent magnets.
