Year 5 Experiments With Force
Wednesday, August 9, 2017
Students in Year 5 have been learning about forces. Last week, students experimented with buoyancy force by attempting to build a boat out of clay that could carry 20 marbles. Students had to make sure their boat was large enough to displace the amount of water necessary to keep it afloat! They had a great time competing with their peers.
Students also experimented with frictional force to discover which surface exerts the least amount of friction on a moving object. Students measured the distance a toy car could roll when released down ramps with varying surfaces. As hypothesised, the ramp with the smooth surface exerted much less frictional force!
