Year 4 studies water retention in their Soils unit
January 29, 2019
As students in Year 4 entered the last test period in Science, they began their study of the Soils unit. They have been learning about what soils are made of, how they are created, and observing the different properties of soils, like colour and texture.
Last week students took to the science lab to look at another property of soils, water retention. In the science lab, students examined how the water was able to go into 3 different soil samples, and how well the water was able to remain in the soils. At the end of the lab, students were able to compare the differences in the three soils and make connections with other properties like texture.
As they continue through the last of this unit and the final unit on Plants, students will extend their knowledge of soils and apply them to plants. We look forward to the many experiments to come.
