Year 4 Mindfulness

Every day teachers instruct their students to, “Listen carefully!” and “Focus! Pay Attention!” But we never teach them how.

In Year 4, students participate in weekly mindfulness sessions lead by Mr. Michael. The goal of mindfulness education is to help students learn self-awareness, empathy, and techniques to calm the mind. Studies have shown mindfulness can have positive impacts, including:

  • Attention and focus
  • Better grades
  • Effective emotion regulation
  • Better behavior in school
  • Greater empathy
  • Better social skills
  • Reduced test anxiety
  • Less stress

It’s important to note that these sessions are entirely secular, that is, non-religious. The focus of these sessions is purely to focus the mind in the present moment.
