Year 11- Mathematics- Complex numbers and data handling
December 3, 2018
In Mr. Bennet’s year 11 Maths classes this week students have been researching the applications of complex numbers in the real world. Students have done an excellent job of finding examples of the processes we have studied in class applied to problems in multiple fields.
Complex numbers and the concept of imaginary values can seem obscure. Our students have found they are used in all sorts of industries. Electrical engineering, signal analysis, market models in economics, quantum mechanics and statistics to name but a few. One group claim that complex numbers can provide answers to the classic question of “Why did the chicken cross the road?” We will see their completed projects on applications of complex numbers in the coming weeks.
