Year 11 Foundation Math – Standard Deviation
Thursday, December 17, 2020
This week at Assumption College English Program year 11 students further enhanced their knowledge of advanced statistics through relational learning. Students discovered how to calculate and interpret standard deviation. Students used prerequisite knowledge of central tendencies to calculate population standard deviation and sample standard deviation of raw data. In the succeeding lessons students used their practical knowledge and ability to tackle more laborious tasks such as the finding standard deviation of grouped data.
In the forthcoming lessons students will look at the applications of standard deviation more specifically comparing the mean and standard deviation of cell counting -tests for blood samples which will be drawn through peripheral vein infusion and through vein puncture. Throughout this half-term cross curricular science and mathematics activities will be utilized to demonstrate the significance and capabilities of statistics.
