Year 10 Mathematics – Learning About Simple Probability
May 31, 2019
In this Mathematics lesson, Year 10 students were introduced to simple probability using a deck of cards taken from Myimaths. In teams, students examined the probability of taking a card at random, without replacement, from a set of 13.
Students had to determine the probability of pulling a card whose value was higher or lower than the previous card shown. To encourage active learning, students were rewarded for participating in the game with fake money prizes.
Following this starting activity, students were engaged with practice in various simple probability exercises involving spinners, dice, and marbles on Myimaths. Lastly, to check for understanding, students were assessed by a simple probability question at the end of the lesson.
