Year 8 Students Learn Cloud Computing with Google Drive
Wednesday, June 12, 2019
Students in Mr. Dax Ward’s Year 8 Data Communication & Networks courses have been learning to work with Google Drive cloud computing applications and services since the beginning of Term 1 2019. These ACEP lower-secondary students have made a lot of progress in developing their skills in this important area of IT learning.
Thus far, the Year 8 students have learned to upload, share, and organize files and folders using Google Drive cloud storage, as well as the use of the Google Slides presentation application and the design/purpose of Mind Maps. Students first learned to create folders and upload images and other files for safe and convenient storage of digital data. They then learned how to share files with teachers and classmates so that they can collaborate on homework assignments and projects. Students also used the browser-based website bubbl.us to create Mind Map images which can be used as a visual aid to studying and understanding new topics in greater detail. They uploaded their Mind Maps to Google Drive folders and shared links to them with their teacher on the Schoology Learning Management System.
Students then learned to use the Google Slides application to create slide presentations for presenting various projects and research-based assignments. They spent 2 lessons designing slide presentations about their own interests. Then, on Wednesday, June 12th, Year 8 students presented their individual Google Slide presentations to their teacher and classmates during the lesson. The students presented some very creative, interesting and fun slide shows which the classes and teacher really enjoyed watching.
These Y8 students are doing some excellent work in their computer lessons and show a lot of strength in their technological knowledge and understanding. We look forward to seeing what these bright and promising students create in the future.
Below are some pictures of students working on their mind maps, Google Slides, and giving their slide presentations:
Below are a few of the more imaginative mind maps that the students designed:
Below is an exceptional Mind Map completed by Lalada Thailaemthong in Year 8/3. It’s a mind map outlining the provinces of Thailand, done in the shape of the country. Excellent work!
