Telling Time in Year 3
January 13, 2020
A new test period brings new challenges for our year 3 stars. One of the more difficult skills that our students must master in the final test period is time telling. Knowing how to tell time is a very important skill. It can help our students determine whether they’re running late or whether they have plenty of time to spare. It can help them catch a train, bus, or plane on time, and allows them to know if they’re going to make it to an important get-together.
In the learning process, We look at the history of telling time, from sundials and hour glasses to the modern digital and analog clocks. We learn to write and verbalize the time in a number of manners, too.
By providing our students with a variety of learning experiences using clocks. The previously steep learning curve is shortened and smoothed. We have found that students build confidence in telling time, which adds another skill to their learner toolbox.
