Secondary Summer Photography Courses Compete in Photo Face-off Competitions
March 29, 2019
The students in Mr. Dax Ward’s Photography Course in ACEP Summer School 2019 participated in a Photo Face-off competition during the week of March 25-29, 2019. These Secondary students have been learning digital smartphone photography with Mr. Dax, practicing basic photographic composition & image processing using only a smartphone and the free editing application Snapseed. Students first practiced taking pictures & editing the pictures with their teacher’s guidance during the first week’s lesson. All pictures were shot and edited using only smartphones, demonstrating to the students that the most important aspect of photography is not the equipment, but the mind and creativity of the photographer.
The next lesson was held as a class competition, where each of the 4 classes, ranging from Years 7-10, were given 30 minutes to walk around the ACEP campus and take pictures of interesting subject matter. Then, they returned to the classroom and were given 15 minutes for each student to process/edit their best photo and submit it for judging by ACEP Secondary teachers.
The students produced some impressively creative work, especially given the half-hour time constraint. They really put their minds and talents to the test and were able to submit some excellent photos for judging. The top 3 photos in each class were awarded prizes by Mr. Dax. The 12 winning photos are below, accompanied by pictures of the students during the activity. The students and their teacher had a great time during these lessons, and we look forward to seeing more superb photography work from these young ACEP ladies & gentlemen in the coming 2019 school year!
