Precipitation Reactions With Year 12
Tuesday, November 3, 2020
Assumption College English program students learning chemistry in year 12 have recently been exploring solubility. In this activity they use solubility tables to predict which solutions will give a precipitation reaction. The ability to do this correctly shows that the students have an understanding that some reactions are driven solely because a substance is being removed from the system and due to Le Chatliers principle states that to oppose this the reaction will shift equilibrium position. It also teaches them that to get nice colours one should chose transition metals. The students really enjoy the colours and it pushes them to explore further. Great fun and learning wrapped up into one just as it should be.
