Learning about ‘Our Senses’ in Year 1
July 18, 2018
We have lots of super scientists here at Assumption College English Program! Our Year 1 students love learning about the world around them and they enjoy experiments and hands-on activities the most. We have been learning all about our bodies and our 5 senses – sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch.
First, the students listened to sounds they couldn’t see and had to guess what it was. Next, we tested our sense of smell. Students smelled a lot of different things and had to classify each one into a certain group (no smell, a smell I like etc.). This included onion, ginger, coffee, soap and lime.
The highlight for many of the students was the lesson on taste. Students tasted foods such as cookies, lemons, chips, banana and chocolate and had to classify them as sweet, sour, bitter or salty. Finally, students had to put their hand inside the mystery box and use their sense of touch to guess what was inside.
Keep up the good work Year 1!
