Hansel and Gretel Take to the Stage at ACEP
Friday, September 29, 2017
On Thursday September 28th, as part of the Upper Primary Club time, the Drama club took to the stage in Ave Maria to perform their play, Hansel and Gretel: The Comedy, with stage backdrops created by the Art club, and it was a great success.
The clubs initiative in Upper Primary seeks to take students out of the everyday class and immerse them in an English setting based on different student and teacher interests. Also it gives them the chance to work in mixed groups of students from Years 4-6. Mr. Nicholas and Ms. Rachel, two of our Year 4 teachers have been organizing the Drama club for those students who want to try their feet in Theatre. This particular club is a great opportunity to focus on English speaking skills and to really bring out the character when our students speak in English, not to mention build confidence and have fun.
This years group was full of talent and the play was a lot of fun. Beautifully narrated by two students, Than 4/5 and Sirichon 4/3, our story revolves around 2 children, Hansel and Gretel, played by Jirunya 4/3 and Kan 6/5. In the original story, they are poor unfortunate children who get lost in the woods and caught by a Witch (played by Praewwanit 5/6) who wants to cook them and eat them. In our story however, they are not so lovable, but rather two annoying children, who get brought to the woods because their Stepmother (played by Nudtha-Undh 5/5) can’t stand living with them any more.
We see appearances from the 7 Dwarves of the Snow White story, and two very unusual Fairy ‘God’ Mothers who come to save the day. In the end, the children are rescued from the evil Witch and, although still annoying, they learn how to be more lovable.
