Exothermic and Endothermic Reactions
November 7, 2020
This week year 9 students performed two experiments in order to understand exothermic and endothermic reactions. The first experiment the students mixed low concentration hydrochloric acid with a strip of magnesium. They measured the initial temperature and the highest temperature in order to confirm that it was an exothermic reaction. Then for the second experiment they mixed hydrochloric acid and sodium hydrogen carbonate. They took the initial temperature and the lowest temperature in order to confirm it was an endothermic reaction. All the students then wrote detailed lab reports of the experiments.
