Friday, September 29, 2017
On Thursday, September 28, 2017, Mr. Marcin Kempka, Head of Foreign Affairs, Mr. John Stillie, Head of Mathematics, Mr. Michael Lams, Head of Science, and Ms. Kirst Jennings, Secondary English Teachers, attended Professional Development Seminars organized by Oxford International AQA Examinations. The seminars were held at the Ambassador’s Residence, British Embassy, Bangkok. During the seminars, our teachers attended two separate sessions. Mr. Kirsty Jennings attended a session on ‘How to motivate students in GCSE and A-level English.’ The session was led by Mr. Jamie Kirkaldy (Head of Teaching and Learning Support, Oxford International AQA Examinations) and focused on some of the barriers students face in terms of self-motivation, and what teachers can do to help them overcome those barriers. Mr. Marcin Kempka, Mr. John Stillie, and Mr. Michael Lams attended a session on ‘Strategies to prepare students for their Maths and Science exams at GCSE and A-level.’ This session was led by Mr. Matthew Bennett (Chief Examiner, Oxford AQA International GCSE Combined Science) who talked about ways in which teachers can effectively prepare their students for their Maths and Science exams.
After the official part of the seminars, there was a buffet dinner during which our teachers had the opportunities to exchange ideas with teachers from other schools and representatives of the Oxford International AQA Examinations.
These Professional Development sessions are a part of training that our teachers will be receiving from Oxford International AQA Examinations. In August 2017, we were approved to be an Oxford International AQA Examinations Test Center (you can read more about it here) and we have started integrating International GCSE Curriculum into our Mathematics, Science and English Curricula in Year 8 – 10. In order to make sure that we prepare our students well for the Oxford International GCSE Examinations, our teachers will be provided with trainings and workshops.
